Biden weaponizing agencies in his war on American energy

Just in time for the frigid weather and snow that’s blanketing much of the country, the Biden Administration has decided to take yet another action that will drive up the cost of heating our homes in the winter months.
Biden’s EPA recently announced a brand new tax on natural gas that will squeeze American energy producers and inevitably drive up the price of natural gas for consumers. This is also the first tax the federal government has placed on emissions, which sets a costly precedent if they are allowed to continue that trend. This is after the Administration implemented a new rule last month to further regulate emissions form existing oil and gas wells—a move that will be especially burdensome on small and independent American energy producers.
Since Biden took office, traditionally affordable natural gas prices have had some of their largest price spikes in decades. This new tax will only continue the trend of unpredictable price surges. And, the facts are:
- America is a world leader in reducing emissions BECAUSE of our increased use of natural gas. Natural gas is responsible for two-thirds of the CO2 s reductions in U.S. electricity generation—double the reductions from renewable sources.
- A 2019 report from the Council of Economic Advisers found that price decreases that resulted from the American shale revolution have saved an average family of four $2,500 a year—that’s a $203 billion annual savings for U.S. consumers.
- A study by the National Bureau of Economic Research concluded that natural gas for home heating averted 11,000 winter deaths per year in the United States.
Natural gas is America’s clean, affordable and reliable energy source. And, the last thing our leaders should be doing is making it less affordable and available when American families need it the most.
