Natural gas can fuel our AI revolution

Running a ChatGPT search takes roughly ten times as much energy as a simple Google search, according to a recent report from the International Energy Agency. The same assessment found that we’ll need an additional ten terawatt-hours of electricity per year to power those searches. For context, a single terawatt hour can fuel the entire state of California for 1.5 weeks.
