AFTERNOON TEA

Cheap renewables?! Let’s look at the facts:

“Fossil fuels are incredibly expensive. Not the price you pay at the well, but the cost to society is extremely high.” Dr. Andrew Dessler, Director of Texas Center for Climate Studies and Reta A. Haynes Chair in Geosciences at Texas A&M University, comment on The Joe Rogan Experience.

We’ve all heard these kinds of talking points from the green-at-all-costs crowd, but are they true? Do science and economics back them up? Well, if you listen to what Dr. Dessler says next, he answers that question for us: “That’s my personal opinion. Not as a scientist because science doesn’t tell you that. That’s my personal opinion as a citizen.”

Here are some real facts about the cost of energy sources:

  • According to Mark Mills of the Manhattan Institute, “During the past two decades, global governments have spent over $5 trillion to avoid using fossil fuels. But oil, natural gas, and coal still supply 84% of global energy, just two percentage points lower than 20 years ago.”
  • Solar and wind energy are unreliable, so they need to be backed up by another energy source, usually natural gas in the U.S.. So, any so-called “affordability” that comes with wind and solar is built on the affordability of natural gas.
  • As Alex Epstein of the Center for Industrial Progress puts it, “the more solar+wind a grid uses the more expensive its electricity tends to be.” Germany saw huge increases in household electricity prices with only a portion of their grid relying on wind and solar. And, California’s prices run far ahead of the rest of the U.S.

  • Solar and wind are fueled by tax credits, subsidies and government mandates. As Warren Buffet once said, “We get a tax credit if we build a lot of wind farms. That’s the only reason to build them. They don’t make sense without the tax credit.” And, those tax loopholes are paid for by everyday Americans.

American scholar, H. L. Mencken once said: “The whole aim of practical politics is to keep the populace alarmed (and hence clamorous to be led to safety) by menacing it with an endless series of hobgoblins, all of them imaginary.” Apply that advice to flippant statements from green-at-all-costs activists like Dessler, speaking under the veil of science to inspire fear and confusion, especially in our kids and younger generation who are malleable. President Biden, his Administration, and the green-at all-cost crowd are the reason for higher cost of energy in America.  Who do they hurt the most? 61% of Americans who live paycheck to paycheck, nearly 56% of Americans who do not have $1,000 cash in our banks to take care of an emergency, and millions of small businesses in our country.

How do we stop this nonsense?  First understand the facts and truth about energy and our environment. You can learn about this from TEA, here. Promote what you learn to your friends and families, it is your lives and wallets that you are protecting. Recognize that your local, state, and federal elected representatives, Democrat or Republican, must believe in America’s energy independence and the essential role of natural gas to our energy affordability and economic prosperity as individuals, families, businesses, and our nation. Your elected representatives should adhere to an America and Americans First, common sense clean energy and carbon reduction plan. Did we hear you say, where is such a plan? Click here and check it out and together, let’s make America great again and keep her great.
