Don’t buy energy from bad guys
You’ve heard us talk a lot about the Energy Security ARC and why it is the common-sense energy path that Americans need to be safe and successful. But, each component of the ARC is an important step to be considered in its own right.
As conflicts in the Middle East intensify, the importance of the first step—American energy security—has never been so apparent. In the last several years, the world has become a more and more dangerous place. The unprecedented ballistic missile attacks by Iran against Israel represent a “significant escalation,” as National Security Advisor Jake Sullivan said in the moments after the attack.
But, with each new threat, we are shown why American energy security and dominance is the answer to an increasingly scary world. As we produce affordable, reliable and clean energy like American natural gas and oil, we have also made our nation and the world more secure:
- In 2018, the U.S. surpassed Russia and Saudi Arabia to become the world’s top producer of natural gas AND oil largely because of the U.S. shale revolution.
- In December 2020, for the first time in 35 years, the U.S. imported no weekly crude oil from Saudi Arabia.
- In 2022, the U.S. became the largest exporter of liquid natural gas (LNG) in the world, aiding our allies in Europe when Russia started its war with Ukraine.
- During the Trump administration, a heightened focus on U.S. government enforcement reduced Iranian oil exports by 95%, reducing Iranian oil revenues by $50 billion.
The green-at-any-cost push to move away from American energy production and become dependent on dangerous foreign entities like OPEC and China for our energy is a threat to American families and our way of life. The fact of the matter is: the American Energy Security ARC works. When America produces its own energy, we are safer and so is the rest of the world.
