GOP Makes American Energy the Priority
Last week, The U.S. House of Representatives finally passed common-sense energy legislation, appropriately named the Lower Energy Costs Act. House Republicans, led by House Majority Leader Steve Scalise (R-LA) introduced the GOP energy package, to reverse President Biden’s “war on American energy,” shore up energy and mineral supply chains, reform the permitting process, and reduce consumer energy prices which is the reason for runaway inflation and the skyrocketing cost of living.
This bill could bring immediate relief to American working families and small businesses, struggling as President Biden’s green-at-any-cost agenda has driven up prices at every turn. Biden’s war on the natural gas and oil industry weakens our energy independence. And, it also hurts millions of our fellow citizens, including the most vulnerable, like the 64% of American households who have an income less than $50,000 a year.
The Lower Energy Costs Act includes reforms to unburden energy producers and cut costs for consumers. Among other provisions, it would:
- Repeal the Energy Department’s power to block cross-border purchases and sales of natural gas,
- Direct the energy secretary to strengthen U.S. critical minerals often sourced from China,
- And repeal costly provisions of the so-called Inflation Reduction Act, such as the $27 billion Greenhouse Gas Reduction Fund and the burdensome methane tax.
The Lower Energy Costs Act is a statement by pro-America and pro-American energy legislators for America’s security and American’s prosperity. They are saying, “Do American’s livelihoods matter?” Almost every GOP House Member and four Democrat House Members said YES. Everyone else in the House, 203 Democrats and one Republican, voted NO. Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-NY) has already described the bill as “dead on arrival” in the Senate. President Biden has also said he will veto this bill if it ever makes it to his desk. These are the very people who claim they are for the underprivileged, working families, and the middle class. Anyone who votes NO is saying: American’s livelihood and security don’t matter.
Americans are connecting the dots that have resulted in their energy poverty and economic misery. By voting, Americans must hold the legislators who undermine their livelihoods accountable. America is among the leaders in the world in environmental cleanliness, and no one comparable to America’s population or economic size even comes close. God has blessed us with incredible energy and natural resources. Instead of undermining this incredible prosperity, our government must do everything possible to unleash this blessing to benefit all American households and our nation’s economy. We urge the Senate to pass this common-sense bill and send it to President Biden’s desk— American families and our nation’s future depends on it.
