Is your state protecting energy security?

September 30, 2024

The last several years have shown just how important energy security and affordability is in the lives of everyday Americans. Increasing energy costs and the highest gasoline prices in the history of the U.S. have burdened families and driven crushing inflation. One thing has become clear: America’s energy independence is essential to America’s independence as a nation.

That is why, we need leaders at all levels of government that will work toward a common-sense energy agenda that will benefit all Americans. And, those leaders can now be guided by model legislation called the Affordable, Reliable and Clean Energy Security Act (Energy Security-ARC) recently passed by the American Legislation Exchange Council (ALEC).

The Energy Security-ARC has four important goals.

Energy Security: Energy sources that are primarily produced within the U.S. and infrastructure that will reduce our reliance on foreign nations for critical materials and manufacturing.

Affordability: Energy sources with stable pricing that can cost-effectively provide heating, cooling and electricity generation around the clock.

Reliability: Energy sources that are available 24/7 with little or no interruptions in order to stabilize the electrical grid.

Clean: Redefine “green” energy as an energy source that reduces air pollutants to the standard set by pipeline quality natural gas, (e.g. those emitted by residential gas stoves).

As National Review’s Jack Fowler puts it, “All Americans, should be cheered by this attempt to bring state leadership to an issue that is vital to national security, economic growth, energy abundance, and human flourishing.” The Energy Security-ARC is fundamental to our American dream and this model legislation provides a blueprint that can deliver that dream to all Americans.
