Natural gas: making Christmas warm and bright
As we all break for the season, heading our different ways to celebrate Christmas with our families and wrap up the end of 2024, we have a lot of cause for hope. America is at a crossroads of two energy futures. One is built on fear that says we must sacrifice our prosperity and security to green-at-any-cost doomsday scenarios. And the other is founded on hope and experience that empowers us to build and protect our own energy future.
Affordable, reliable and clean American energy is the path to a warm, safe and happy holiday season just as it the rest of the year:
- Households that use natural gas for heating, cooking and other appliances save an average $1,132 per year compared to homes using electricity for such appliances.
- Gasoline prices have come down since the days of crushing inflation a couple of years ago but they still remain over 30 percent higher than they did before President Biden started his green-at-any-cost agenda in January 2021.
- Over 6,000 everyday household products are derived from oil and natural gas, including many we use to celebrate the holiday season
The fact is energy—especially from American oil and natural gas—is necessary for everything we do and all the products we use. During the holiday season, it keeps us warm and healthy. It supplies the heat to cook Christmas dinner. It fuels our travel to see friends, family and loved ones. And, it’s a part of everything from the kid’s presents under the tree to the twinkling lights on our houses to the ugly sweater you plan to wear to the office Christmas party.
So, when energy prices are affordable and reliable, that means the prices of so many other parts of our lives remain affordable and reliable. And, that lets us focus on what the holiday season is truly about—family and fellowship—not the bills we’ll face in January. When we choose the path toward a hopeful energy future built on affordable, reliable and clean American energy, we choose the path of hope that the Christmas season is all about.
