The Empowerment Alliance Applauds Utility Companies for Suspending Service Shut Offs During Coronavirus Outbreak

WASHINGTON, D.C. –  Over the course of the last week, federal, state, and local governments along with private industries and local communities have led the way together as the United States deals with the fallout from COVID-19.

During this time, Americans need to be assured that they will have access to basic necessities, including electricity, heat, and water. It is therefore extremely heartening to see utility companies around the country suspending customer shut offs for non-payment of bills, and reconnecting power to those whose services had been shut off.

In response, The Empowerment Alliance spokesperson Ian Prior released the following statement:

“As many Americans have seen their work hours reduced or have been laid off, many will be unable to pay for basic energy services.

“Fortunately, utility companies around the country are doing the right thing and suspending customer shut offs and resuming service. It’s the kind of patriotic response this country needs and The Empowerment Alliance applauds their efforts and encourages all others that can to follow suit.”
