Today, The Empowerment Alliance issued the following statement from its spokesperson Ian Prior following the confirmation of Deb Haaland as Secretary of Interior:

“Deb Haaland is the last person that should be overseeing energy development on federal lands. She has repeatedly called for an end to natural gas extraction, was a co-sponsor of the Green New Deal, and has admitted that she is 100% behind Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez’s radical climate agenda.

“America isn’t even 100 days into the Biden Administration and energy costs are rising and gasoline prices are expected to rise to $4 per gallon by June. Haaland’s nomination and confirmation have made it clear that the Biden Administration has abandoned a future where America’s energy resources can empower consumers for one with outages, shortages, and darker economic times for hard-working Americans just coming out of a historic pandemic.”
