Trump Ended The Green New Scam, Activists Are Upset

September 19, 2025

Need to know

Common Sense

GREEN WITH ENVY IN NEW ENGLAND: The green agenda turned New England into an energy price punchline. But that may be slowly changing, as bipartisan support grows around the Constitution Pipeline.

Why it matters: Connecticut Gov. Ned Lamont may have changed positions as he and others are waking up to the reality that more pipelines in the Northeast are required to provide more affordable, reliable energy to millions.

The proposed 125-mile pipeline from Pennsylvania’s Marcellus Shale to upstate New York aims to boost natural gas supply to Connecticut and, by extension, Massachusetts, Rhode Island, and New Hampshire.

Our Common Sense Energy agenda outlines the need for more pipelines.

Consider:

  • New England has the highest electricity rates of any region in the contiguous U.S.
  • The Regional Greenhouse Gas Initiative (RGGI) in the region has forced the closure of reliable power plants.
  • Voters do not like rising prices  — and perhaps that’s the key point.

When anti-fossil fuel governors admit that natural gas is the answer, you know things have gotten to the point of desperation. The obvious solution to the problems above is bringing in more natural gas by pipeline.

New Jersey Gov. candidate Jack Ciattarelli has said that state residents saw their energy bills skyrocket after Gov. Phil Murphy shut down power plants.

The pipeline would have the ability to carry up to 650 million cubic feet of gas a day, according to developer Williams Companies, enough to serve about 3 million homes. Though estimates vary, families could save several thousand dollars annually in energy costs.

If approvals go through, construction could begin in late 2026, with the target in‑service near the third quarter of 2027.

Pipelines are the arteries of America’s energy system. They deliver natural gas safely and efficiently.

Bottom line: New England needs more affordable and reliable energy. Complete the Constitution Pipeline to bring affordable natural gas to its residents.

Nonsense

FREE MARKETS WIN OUT: This Hill piece wrongly accuses President Trump of rigging the energy markets in favor of traditional energy sources like natural gas.

Why it matters: If there was any “rigging” of energy markets, it was President Biden’s $370 billion gamble (over a 10-year period) on wind and solar under the ill-fated Inflation Reduction Act.

But this isn’t about the government picking winners and losers. Pursuing a smarter energy future means diligently scrutinizing costly wind and solar projects — and that’s precisely what Trump and his energy team have done.

They should be hailed as champions of the people, not vilified as many in the media are doing.

In a perfect world, Congress would enact federal energy legislation that ensures “affordable energy” through the ARC Energy Security Act. We hope to see that sooner rather than later. In the meantime, Trump is doing his best to provide America with affordable, reliable and clean energy, not green boondoggles.

MYTH: “President Trump is doing everything in his power to create a near-monopoly rather than busting one.”

REALTY: Trump is providing America with the most affordable and reliable energy available, while also unleashing the free market system.

He’s making energy affordable for low and middle-income families and small businesses.

MYTH: “He is relaxing pollution limits, opening new public lands to exploration, giving the industry a $6 billion discount for drilling on those lands, and using tariffs to pressure other countries to buy U.S. oil and gas.”

REALTY: He is using our nation’s vast natural resources for the benefit of ALL Americans and putting energy security first. He’s also pushing investment in LNG exports to help our allies abroad.

This next one is truly laughable.

MYTH: “The three-year-old Inflation Reduction Act created the nation’s biggest-ever investment in renewable energy; his big bill prematurely ends those investments, in some cases by terminating projects already under way.”

REALITY: The IRA is an extension of the Green New Scam and sets up a false narrative that wind and solar power are superior to natural gas and oil. By ending the scam, he is saving taxpayers billions of dollars and should help to lower the cost of electricity, which has been rising for years.

MYTH: “Before Trump’s interference in energy markets, clean energy was on a roll. In April, renewable energy provided more electricity than hydrocarbons for the first time in U.S. history.”

REALITY: Of course that’s the case. It was thriving due mainly to reliance on subsidies paid for by taxpayers. However, traditional energy sources still provide more than 80 percent of the nation’s total energy consumption.

Consider:

  • The “renewables are cheap” talking point ignores what ratepayers actually experience.
  • Despite wind and solar growing from less than 1% of generation in 2007 to over 18% today, electricity bills haven’t fallen. Actually, they’ve risen, especially in recent years.
  • Desperately, green groups have spent millions on a public relations campaign, aided by some in the media, attacking the One Big Beautiful Bill, when it should be applauded.

Bottom line: Biden and Congress wasted billions on unreliable energy. Trump ended the green slush fund, making a free-market correction that benefits average Americans.

A look ahead

Nothing on the calendar next week as Congress is on a break!

Quote of the week

“The ability to convert old coal-fire power plants utilizing natural gas creates opportunity for new energy to come online, and it’s something that I think is environmentally sustainable.”

— Governor Josh Shapiro (D-PA)
