Common Sense
EXPEDITED PERMITS: The Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC) is proposing faster permitting for gas pipeline projects.
Why it matters: That is a prudent decision and one we support, as “Build, Baby, Build” is a key part of TEA’s common sense energy agenda.
FERC said the proposed changes are designed to improve efficiency while supporting reliability and long-term energy infrastructure development across the United States. These proposed changes are a direct result from industry feedback.
New interstate natural gas pipeline construction has declined significantly compared to prior decades, despite continued demand growth.
Courts and activist litigation have created uncertainty. Even projects that receive federal approval can be tied up for years in lawsuits, discouraging investment and increasing costs.
Consider:
- The proposed reforms would expand the types and sizes of projects eligible for blanket certificate authorization, allowing certain interstate natural gas facilities to move forward without separate case-by-case approval from FERC.
- According to the commission, the changes are intended to streamline infrastructure development and reduce permitting delays tied to pipeline construction, upgrades and related energy projects.
- The US must maximize abundant domestic resources rather than rely more heavily on imports or unstable foreign markets.
Case in point: The Iran conflict’s gasoline price spike is a reminder that affordable energy matters in our daily lives.
FERC permitting reform is needed because America’s energy demand is rising while the infrastructure needed to deliver reliable natural gas is being delayed by red tape, lawsuits and political obstruction. The result: higher prices, weaker grid reliability and lost economic growth.
America must remove needless roadblocks and unleash reliable energy — nuclear power, refineries, pipelines, export terminals and grid upgrades.
Bottom line: Bureaucracy, regulation and red tape are the enemies of energy security.
Nonsense
CLIMATE ‘CULT’URE: Can we all get a refund? Now United Nations climate experts admit climate change won’t destroy the Earth tomorrow, as this New York Post opinion piece explains.
Lawmakers like Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY) insisted the world would end by 2030 if we didn’t address climate change — by which she meant wasting trillions on the Green New Deal and returning to Stone Age-style living.
Why it matters: This is why electing pro-domestic energy legislators in November is crucial. It means energy affordability remains at the forefront of policy decisions, rather than Green New Deal promises.
The much-ballyhooed Panel on Climate change has reversed course, thankfully. Gen Z, in particular, is owed an apology, says one writer.
A massive portion of Gen Z opts out of the two-party system. Polls like Gallup indicate that about 56% of young adults identify as political independents, prioritizing issues over strict party loyalty. They care about the planet and need facts — not hype — to make informed voting choices.
Consider:
- Hollywood profited from apocalyptic climate predictions, while the public paid the price in anxiety, economic strain and higher energy costs.
- For years, left-wing groups pushed dire climate warnings based on shaky science. The New York Times blared headlines like: “Climate Change Is Speeding Toward Catastrophe” and “A Hotter Future Is Certain.”
- Many Democrats fully embraced UN-backed forecasts predicting rising seas, melting glaciers, crop failures and even threats to humanity itself.
Let’s face it: The UN scenarios were overblown from the start, and the left’s climate crusaders hyped them even more.
We wasted trillions of dollars and scared children unnecessarily. New York’s actions have resulted in skyrocketing energy costs, just like California and other climate-crazed states.
Bottom line: Voters must wake up. Doomsday climate predictions are wrong over and over and over again.
A look ahead
Nothing on the calendar for next week.
Quote of the week
“Politicians don’t like to see high and rising gasoline prices around Memorial Day. They don’t like to see that any time, but especially the kickoff to the driving season.”
— Bob McNally, former energy adviser to President George W. Bush.
