AFTERNOON TEA

Let’s celebrate the people who keep the lights on

Today is Natural Gas Utility Workers’ Day!

So, TEA is celebrating the energy utility workers that keep American natural gas flowing to our homes and businesses. Because of them, we can all enjoy the benefits of clean, affordable, reliable and safe energy.

  •  Natural gas workers create jobs. About 123,000 workers are employed directly by natural gas utilities, but those workers catalyze job creation elsewhere. 4.1 million American jobs are supported by the natural gas industry.
  • Natural gas workers keep us safe. For example, building and maintaining pipelines has created a safe and vast system to get energy to the Americans who need it. According to the U.S. Pipeline and Hazardous Materials Safety Administration, “Pipelines enable the safe movement of extraordinary quantities of energy products to industry and consumers, literally fueling our economy and way of life.”
  • Natural gas workers support our communities. When wildfires hit Colorado in 2022, hundreds of natural gas workers from eight different states traveled to the area to help local utilities keep their customers safe during the natural disaster.

America is truly blessed with energy resources that can fuel our nation and keep us secure and safe. But, sometimes it’s easy to forget that the energy powering our appliances, heating our homes and keeping the lights on only exists because of the hardworking women and men that ensure it reaches us.

Take a moment today to appreciate these Americans that literally fuel our lives. For more information on how natural gas and the people who produce and deliver it make our lives better, check out TEA’s Common Sense Energy Agenda
